Calculating an Absolute Neutrophil Count (ANC)

The absolute neutrophil count (ANC) is a measure of the number of neutrophil white blood cells in a patient’s blood sample at any one time. Many laboratories report the ANC directly. The ANC can also be calculated from the total number of white blood cells (WBCs) if you know the percentage of neutrophils and band cells (these cells may also be called polymorphonuclear cells, PMNs, polys, segmented neutrophils or segs).  Use this link to calculate an ANC: https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/19/absolute-neutrophil-count-anc
